We were delighted on Wednesday 11th November when two members of the Defence Forces (Sergeant David McCarthy and Sergeant Simon Halpenny) visited our school to present us with the Irish flag. This is being presented to all schools to begin the centenary celebrations of the 1916 rising. Two of our pupils, Áine Byrne and Ellen Byrne played Amhráin na bhFiann on the flute for us to begin the ceremony. The soldiers then spoke to us about the Irish flag and how we care for it properly. They read the proclomation and our pupil Alex Clarke read an extract from it also. The flag was presented to our two oldest pupils Josh Flanagan and Emma Carry. We then all sang Amhráin na bhFiann. We look forward to raising our Irish flag on the `15th March 2016. Have a look at some of the photos below. Comments are closed.
