Role Play - Here groups have the choice of being builders on a construction site or role playing the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We are getting better at utilizing the role pay area as we have been doing a lot of improvisational drama through the English Programme - Wonderland. We use our masks from the Junk Art station when we are pretending to be bears. When we are imagining the building site, we use a lot of vocabulary which builders use, it is great fun being a cross boss!!!
Art - Firstly each group got to make the sitting room from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We explored how to make a soft chair, a hard chair and a chair which was just right.! We also used paper plates to make bear masks, we had to decide for ourselves what we would use to ensure we could hold masks to our faces in the role play area, Some of us used straws and others used lollypop sticks.
Design and build - At this station we pretended to be architects at work. We looked at floor plans of houses and read the house maps in pairs. We then drew our own floor plans deciding what rooms are vital to a house design. We then used Lego to bring our floor plans to life.
Literacy - Ms. Kirk usually spends a lot of time at this group developing vocabulary and plays Oral Language games with us. We have been looking at different types of housing which exist in Ireland such as bungalows, detached and semi detached housing, flats and terraced homes. We then explored rooms within houses on a poster and discussed activities which happen in certain rooms. We then completed a worksheet which shows activities which happen inside and outside the home. We also played memory games and developed our describing skills.
Other activities: This station was an SESE station where we had to decide what items a builder needs for his work and those which he doesn't need. We cut theses out to develop our cutting skills and stuck the items around a picture of a builder.
Take a look at our pictures!!
