We are now implementing Aistear in the Infant room. During Aistear time we get to work on lots of different activities which cover a range of subjects. Each group go to 4 different stations during the week. The theme we are focusing on this month is Houses and Homes. The four stations include:
- Role Play - This is primarily a drama activity. At the minute we are pretending to be builders. We have hard hats, phones, tools etc. We have to problem solve and come up with solutions, for example, when we get a flat tyre or forget our lunch!!
- Architects - Here we build a fancy house using 3-D shapes, it's really important that we use the proper names for the shapes here e.g. cuboid, sphere etc. We also design a 2-D plan/map for a house and then make the floor plan using straws/Lego.
- Junk Art - we have been gathering a lot of rubbish from our homes recently. We are recycling this rubbish to make houses and different rooms, we are really using our imaginations at this station. We can't wait to get another go at this station each week as we never get to finish our creations in one go!
- Literacy Area - Here we have been focusing on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We read the story and discuss it here. We then cut out the sequencing pictures in pairs, mix them up and then sort them into chronological order. This part is tricky. Senior Infants are a great help, they read the story to the Junior Infants at this station. We also make stick puppets of the characters in the story and role play it as a group.
