We had a lovely day on Friday before finishing for the Easter Holidays. Ms. Kirk made us Rice-Krispie buns and we had a picnic in the sunshine after P.E. We also got to make chocolate bird nests using Shredded Wheat, cooking chocolate and Mini Eggs. We think they looked very pretty and could not wait to get home to eat them!! One of the Mum's in our room made us a beautiful Easter cake too and we loved it! We hope you all have a fun and safe Easter Break
At the end of March we had been studying suitable clothes for wearing in the rain as we had a lot of Spring Showers. We now know what items are water proof and what items are not. As you can see in our pictures above we decorated some beautiful umbrellas in Art. Try find some waterproof items at home!
However, today (8/4/2013) the sun was shining and we had great fun doing PE in the Astro-Turf pitch. Long may the good weather last. This week we have been exploring capacity in class. We explored full and empty containers. We then stretched our brains by firstly estimating how many cups it would take to fill different containers and then we measured to see how close our estimate was. This is a game anyone can play at home and a perfect bath-time game.
We have also been getting to play with the sand and water trays during Free-Play. We are really enjoying our maths stations every Thursday morning. Today we made a lot of changes to our stations.
Station 1: 2D and 3D shape. At this station we had to help poor Sooty (the puppet), as he was finding it very hard to tell the difference between his shapes. We had great fun making 2D shapes using match-sticks, lolly-sticks, pipe cleaners and wool. We also sorted lots of everyday 3D objects into sets of objects that roll and set that don't. We now know about circles, rectangles, squares and triangles; and also about cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres. Station 2: Spatial Awareness. This station can be quite tricky. We used posters to develop our language of above, below, beside, in, out, right and left. We played the "Hokey Pokey" to try learn the difference between our right and our left. We are going to try practicing this at home. Station 3: Independent Station. Here we matched number pictures to numerals. We also used white boards and peg boards to practice our number formation. WE did very well at working independently. |
